Speed Governor is mandatory!

Overspeeding is the major factor in almost all road accidents. The effective way to cut down overspeeding crash and death rate, nowadays, is by using a Speed Governor. The speed governor is commonly used to measure and regulate the speed of an engine. It will limit the speed of the vehicle on reaching the preset limit.

Statistics shows that 1.35 lakh people died in road accidents in India, which increased to 1.42 lakh in 2011. About 31% of the incidents involve commercial vehicles like trucks, buses and tractors. In 2014, 37% of accidents are reported based on overspeeding. Among which 1.4 lakh people have died by overspeeding. The rate is shocking! The increasing rate of accidents made the government think on the mandatory fitment of speed governor in commercial vehicles.

But the owners of commercial vehicles are against the compulsory fitment of speed governors. Commercial vehicle owners raise the protest as they say speed governor malfunction would cause the breakdown of the vehicle and the drivers are not trained to fix the problem, and there are hardly any speed governor service centres in the country.

Speed management is a very important tool for improving road safety. However, improving compliance with speed limits and reducing unsafe driving speeds are not easy tasks. On asked, Mr Mohammed Ashraf, the MD of Autograde was quoted as saying “These devices have been in manufacturing for a few years now and those with vested interests have been spreading misinformation of its shortage. They are available at major outlets, service centres as well as on several online sites. These devices are an important road safety aspect and we welcome the government in its initiative to improve road safety in India.”

Speed Limiter empowers the driver to have superior control over the vehicle in times of emergencies, thereby, drastically reducing fatalities on the road.

How speed increases accident rate?

Increases the risk of collision as the increase in speed reduces the response time of drivers.
Reduces the ability of the driver to steer safely in curves and objects on roads.
Increases the distance necessary to stop the vehicle.
How speed governor affects driving skills?

Reduces crash risk by limiting the speed to a preset value
It will drastically change the driver behaviour to reduce speed which has been hard to achieve from the past years.
Improves driver experience
Increase in engine life
Reduces fuel consumption
Cuts down vehicle maintenance cost
We remain safe by the feeling that ‘It will never happen to me’. The moment when a vehicle hit us and injured, we rethink about ‘How safe am I’.
